# Safari alternatives for Mac

> Browsers to use instead of Safari on Mac, iPhone and iPad. What each one is, who makes it, and what it costs.

Safari is fast and light because it uses WebKit, Apple's own engine.

These browsers add things like ad blocking or vertical tabs, and several use WebKit too.

What we looked at: Runs on Mac (and ideally iPhone and iPad); Actively developed; Clear business model; Facts checked against official pages. Checked 2026-11-01.

## Questions

### Which browsers use the same engine as Safari?

On the Mac: Kort, Orion, DuckDuckGo and SigmaOS use WebKit. On iPhone and iPad, outside the EU, every browser uses WebKit.

### Will I lose my passwords if I leave Safari?

No. Your passwords stay in the Apple Passwords app. Some browsers can fill them directly; in Kort this is coming.
