Benchmarks

Lighter, measured.

Same sites, same steps, same Mac. Fresh profiles and default settings for every browser.

The measurements are running. Results will be published here.

How we measured

  1. Each browser starts with an empty profile and its default settings, launched the way you would launch it.
  2. It opens 20 real, public sites one after another, each in a new tab, and waits for the page to load.
  3. Load times come from each page's own Performance API: the load event and the Largest Contentful Paint.
  4. Every page is scrolled down, a long way on two of them. All tabs stay open.
  5. After the last page: 30 seconds of rest, then memory is read. Then 60 more seconds, with the CPU time counted.
  6. Memory is the "Memory" column of Activity Monitor, added up over the browser and every process macOS assigns to it.
  7. The whole run is repeated 3 times, in a different browser order each round. The table shows medians.

Out of the box, Kort and Brave block ads and trackers. The others load them. That is part of the result: it is what you get when you install each browser.

Safari and Kort use the WebKit that ships with macOS, so their app size leaves out the engine. Chromium and Firefox browsers bring their own.
